Where Restore Haiti Works

Restore Haiti serves three Haitian communities—Morne Ogé and Matador near Jacmel, and Carrefour in the Port-au-Prince region. We focus on depth over breadth by building long-term local partnerships.

Restore Haiti began in Morne Ogé, our original community since the organization's founding. Over time, we expanded thoughtfully to Matador (within a few miles of Morne Ogé) and to Carrefour (in the Port-au-Prince region). We choose to serve a small number of communities so we can stay present, learn what's needed, and respond consistently as students and families grow.

Our Communities

Three communities, one mission.

Morne Ogé (Jacmel)

Morne Ogé is where Restore Haiti began and remains our foundational community. It reflects our long-term approach: investing early, staying present, and supporting students over time through community partnerships.

  • Founding community and longest-running relationships
  • Education support paired with nutrition and access to medical care
  • Serves as a "home base" for how we work

Matador (Jacmel)

Matador is centered around an elementary school on the outskirts of Jacmel, within a few miles of Morne Ogé. The community faces significant poverty, yet the school has demonstrated strong academic performance with committed leadership.

  • Approximately 180 children attend the elementary school
  • Sponsorship helps support tuition and provide meals on-site
  • Students can access medical care through the clinic when needed

Carrefour (Port-au-Prince region)

Carrefour began as an education-focused pilot program and grew to include nutrition support and mentorship through community-based Haitian staff. This combination is especially important in an urban setting where youth often face significant risk and instability.

  • Education assistance plus nutrition support
  • Mentorship, life skills, and character development
  • Focused on prevention and long-term stability for youth

Why We Focus on Specific Communities

We intentionally limit where we work so we can go deeper where we serve. In practice, that means showing up consistently, strengthening local relationships, and supporting students through multiple seasons of life—rather than launching programs we can't sustain.

This approach also supports long-term development: when families, schools, and community leaders know we will still be present next year and the year after, planning becomes possible and progress becomes measurable.

How this connects to sponsorship

Child sponsorship is one of the primary ways supporters partner with Restore Haiti's work in these communities. Sponsorship helps provide education, nutrition, and access to medical care while allowing sponsors to follow a student's journey over time.

No. Carrefour is in the Port-au-Prince region, separate from the Jacmel area where Morne Ogé and Matador are located.
We expand only when we can maintain the same depth of commitment. New communities are chosen based on existing relationships, local partnership opportunities, and our capacity to serve students from primary school through graduation.
